A day in the life of a vogue writer

How to become a vogue writer

Minimalistic stories is coming up with a new series called pen-to paper where we feature real-life inspiring individuals about their profession and showcase how they use their favorite wellness journal for. It could be for a to-do list, sketching, design, poetry, illustrations, notes, daily gratitude, mindfulness, and everything in between.

To start this series, we went inside the journal of a school friend, aka now a vogue writer, Shriya Zamindar.

1) A brief introduction about your work ?

I am the Senior Fashion Features Writer at Vogue India. I write about fashion, what’s trending, and rising talent in the industry, and love to tell meaningful and uplifting stories about the people in fashion.

2) When do you put pen to paper?

My planner is the most important element on my work desk. I cannot start work without knowing the tasks I have planned for the day.

I put pen to paper for my tasks at night before bed for the next day and go over them the next morning when I sit down to work.

3) How do you journal your thoughts ?

I use multiple journals that fulfill different purposes.

Since the age of 9, I have been maintaining a personal diary where I write most of my thoughts.

My Wellness journal is where I write down my goals.

And then, my work diary is where I write all my ideas, and make my notes or write down questions when I’m interviewing people.

Apart from this, I have a planner, where I schedule all my tasks.

4) What is one personal, professional, or financial goal you will be tracking this year?

A personal goal is to get rid of the overwhelming debt on my credit card!

Other than that, I’d say ” to stick to my everyday routine.” Exercising, eating clean, and sleeping is something I hold very important, to function and work properly and also for my mental health because I spend a lot of time in my day staring at a screen and sitting in one place.

A professional goal would be to just keep meeting inspiring people that push me to work harder so I can keep growing and improving and learning.

5) One thing you are inherently disorganized with? And one thing
you are great at being organized with ?

I am disorganized in the house and everyday chores like groceries and laundry. I’m good at handling big projects and leading my team, keeping up with work deadlines.

6) What does self-care look like to you, one activity that you do to take care
of yourself?

Self-care is anything that makes you feel good about yourself, and I love my skincare and dressing up. That gives me the most happiness. I also love to cook in my free time, it’s very therapeutic.

7) What pivotal decision do you think helped you reach where you are ?

I think just being typecasted as somebody who can’t have an intellectual opinion because I was interested in fashion made me want to prove people wrong.

Fashion is inherently informed by what’s happening in the world, a space that has always attempted to remove the archaic norms we’ve been governed by for decades.

It’s a non-judgemental space where people can be whoever they want to be, and once I realized it, that is when I always wanted my work to reflect that as well. I think there is a community that understands and appreciates that.

8) What’s your greatest lesson you’d share with Budding writers?

Always be ready to learn and grab every opportunity that presents itself.
